We take our responsibilities as a corporate citizen very seriously. And we have since we began in 1981. That’s why Wesbild is known for building authentic, sustainable communities. Neighbourhoods we would want to live in, shopping centres we would want to spend time in.
We believe being a good corporate citizen means giving back to the wider community, which is why we’re proud to support local non-profits like the Canadian Cancer Society, the United Way and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, among others. They do important work, and through our contributions and volunteer activities, we support it wholeheartedly.
Wherever possible, trees are preserved, streams are protected, and natural habitats are safeguarded. We believe a vibrant natural world is key to thriving communities. Wesbild's commitment to the environment can demonstrated by our efforts at Westwood Plateau, where we planted over 10,000 trees and created almost 700 acres of green parks and community forests. To prevent damage to the fish-bearing creeks at Westwood Plateau, Wesbild developed a set of procedures that minimized environmental impacts both during and after construction. These innovative techniques have been recognized with several awards from groups such as the Audubon Society and the Urban Development Institute, and have since been adopted as the standard for responsible development in sensitive environments. We are now taking our environmental learning from Westwood Plateau and working closely with the municipalities, environmental stakeholders and industry leading consultants to apply low impact development techniques to each of our communities.
